Managing Director

Holding senior roles across commercial property investment, development and management for more than 30 years, Chris brings expert problem solving skills and idea generation to Newmark. His incisive, strategic thinking and quiet ability to solve problems is informed by 13 years with Lend Lease where he managed construction projects from the ground up, five years with Mirvac and over 10 years spent growing Newmark.

Drawing on an in-depth and big picture understanding of the industry, Chris has a keen eye on the market and ensuring investors interests are protected, while maintaining equanimity in business negotiations. His command of investor, governance and risk issues allows him to create innovative solutions.

Chris has a Melbourne University Bachelor of Architecture degree. He believes the built solution is only a small part of an asset story. His analytical approach is reflected in his grounded understanding of local commercial market drivers.

Chris was a member of the AFL Commission from 1999 – 2016, and has several company direct relationships prior to founding Newmark Capital

For more than 30 years Simon has refined his hands-on forensic approach to identifying, acquiring, developing and managing all sectors of commercial property across Australia. Prior to the establishment of Newmark, as Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Development Group for more than 15 years, Simon developed a deep appreciation for whole-of-life property outcomes and an in-depth knowledge of acquisition, design, delivery, management and investment.

Simon brings to Newmark’s business strategy an incisive risk analysis deeply rooted in mitigating potential problems across the project spectrum. By deconstructing a property’s variables and understanding its exposure in physical, legal and financial spheres, he re-engineers issues from a bottom up approach.

Highly methodical and granular in his approach, Simon thrives on the challenge of realising compelling property outcomes for investors and that contribute to the community at large. Simon is a director of Virtual Communities Ltd and Melbourne Hebrew Congregation, and a past director of Luna Park Melbourne and Jewish Care Victoria.

Ed is an experienced real estate professional skilled in due diligence, transaction advisory, project feasibility studies, lease analysis and negotiation, market research, property portfolio optimisation and financial modelling for real estate investments. Before joining Newmark, Ed was a Director within PwC’s Real Estate Advisory team where he consulted to a range of real estate owners and occupiers to solve a range of complex problems.

At Newmark, Ed is responsible for working with the broader team to set and execute the investment strategy of Newmark’s property trusts.

Ed holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from Monash University, Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting.

With a focus on commercial property development, Angus has almost 30 years of executive level experience at some of Australia’s largest land owners and property organisations. At McDonalds Australia as Development Director he was responsible for the asset management of the national property portfolio together with new store network planning. At both Westfield and Vicinity, Angus was responsible for several major retail development projects across various states including the $1.1b Emporium Melbourne redevelopment from site acquisition to completion and more recently Chadstone Shopping Centre. As such, Angus has a comprehensive understanding of the key issues and strategies required to deliver major development projects through the entire project cycle with focus on financial performance, risk mitigation and design and construction delivery. Angus was educated at Melbourne University and has been on a member of Australian Property Council retail and education sub committees. He is a current member of the Property Industry Foundation corporate cycling fund raising committee.

Peter is highly skilled and experienced in corporate law, governance, compliance and risk management with over 21 years’ experience in the legal and property funds management industries, including listed, unlisted, retail, wholesale, open-ended and fixed term funds and alternative investment vehicles. Peter has developed strong capabilities in managing complex corporate and fund transactions, diverse stakeholders and regulatory engagement. Peter has previously held positions as General Counsel and Company Secretary of Arena REIT and Arena Investment Management and is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.

Mark is a highly collaborative executive leader with more than 25 years’ experience in the property funds management industry uniquely skilled as an investor, operator, director and platform builder. He has a proven track record of successfully growing businesses, people and teams for the benefit of investors.

At Newmark, Mark is responsible for the funds management platform, working closely with all team members to maintain trust and create value for investors, tenants, employees, partners and the community.

During his careers with Australian Unity, Investa Property Group and Stockland, Mark has managed several property funds in the ASX listed and unlisted environments; had commercial accountability for an investment funds management business spanning commercial property, equities and fixed interest products; built cohesive teams across various functions ranging from investment management through to sales, marketing and operations; and launched innovative new products and led various M&A and IPO transactions.

Mark holds a Bachelor of Business from University of Technology, Sydney and was the Joint Chairman of the Wholesale and Retail Fund Manager’s Forum for the Property Council of Australia.

Simon has a passion for property and brings a wealth of experience identifying, acquiring and divesting retail property for Coles Group on Australia’s eastern seaboard. His knowledge of retail property drivers underpins his hands on approach to development management. A trained Property Valuer with a keen eye for long-term capital growth, Simon hones in on detail and understands how to strategically apply it. He focuses on checking the detail in feasibility analysis and has a strong understanding of structuring deals. Simon has a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Property and Construction from the University of Melbourne.

Kelly has extensive experience leading finance teams in the property industry in both the listed and unlisted environments.

 

Previously Kelly has held CFO and senior finance roles at Property Fund Managers and Property Developers including Arena Investment Management and Impact Investment Group.  Kelly also spent 8 years at PwC providing her with exposure to a broad range of industries both in Australia and overseas. Kelly has managed and overseen all elements of finance, including financial strategy, financial and management reporting,  taxation, audit, treasury, AFSL compliance, budgeting, reforecasting, systems review, process improvement and financial controls.

 

At Newmark Kelly is responsible for leading the finance strategy, overseeing all elements of the financial function and leading a team of qualified financial professionals.

 

Kelly is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Science.

Richard gained extensive experience from physically inspecting hundreds of buildings while researching commercial property acquisitions across Australia. A trained Property Valuer, he understands the importance of careful and targeted research that analyses all dimensions of an asset. Having witnessed the dramatic rise and fall of several property cycles, Richard undertakes forensic analysis of reports and is skilled at detecting missing information. During his 25-year career Richard has held property management and acquisition roles at Coles, Target, Officeworks and Becton. Richard believes listening to tenants and making properties function for them is integral to achieving client satisfaction.

With over 25 years of financial services experience George has a trusted reputation and is well connected with key industry financial advisory groups. He brings to the task of establishing Newmark’s distribution network extensive industry knowledge. Through executive level roles across institutional, retail, international funds management and private wealth businesses, George has developed highly nuanced communication skills allowing him to relate to a variety of risk profiles and personalities. In his senior roles with financial services groups including Challenger and IOOF he was responsible for capital raisings for specialised managed offerings, property and infrastructure syndicates including overseas closed end funds.

With a career spanning 30 years in financial services, Peter has held senior national sales and marketing roles with major global and domestic participants in the funds management industry, including Australian Unity, Legg Mason and Colonial First State.

Throughout his career, Peter has successfully promoted products in all major asset classes, including property. Peter has been instrumental in leading significant growth in FUM across all property funds at Australian Unity through close engagement & interaction with dealer groups, financial advisers as well as non-advised investors in both the retail and wholesale segments. This continues to be Peter’s overarching objective at Newmark Capital, working collaboratively with key members of the Newmark team and major stakeholders.

Peter remains passionate about helping clients achieve their financial goals by providing the highest level of service coupled with excellent product offerings – an approach that has resulted in him delivering significant business growth and forming enduring client relationships.  

 Peter holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney. He is a CPA (Fellow) and a Certified Practising Marketer.

Warren brings over 30 years experience in property funds management to Newmark, working in business and fund development and IR , for many of Australia’s most successful property groups, including National Mutual/AXA, Deutsche Bank (Dexus) and APN Property Group.

Following 20 years in the A-REIT market dealing with institutional investors and analysts, he then focussed on unlisted property funds,  designing and launching property funds for industry super funds, SMSF’s, advisers, high net worth and retail clients.  He is passionate about investors with many now close personal friends.

He was a member of Investment Committees at Dexus and APN and owned a property advisory company advising property fund managers.

Anton is a qualified Chartered Accountant with extensive experience in the property industry. Prior to his role with Newmark, Anton worked within privately owned commercial property companies, as well as a Financial Controller for a residential property wholesale fund. Prior to that, he spent over 6 years in public practice as an auditor of a large variety of private companies. Anton also has pre-qualification experience in accounting roles in the mining industry and property management in South Africa.

As a high performing Finance Executive with significant experience in Due Diligence/Finance within the Property and Accounting Services Industry. Anton possesses proven ability to influence and build strong partnerships at all levels of an organisation. He puts a high premium on providing sound strategic advice and direction and driving business performance through streamlining operational processes and developing and implementing controls that support robust controls and compliance obligations across the organisation.

Excellent relationship building skills underpinned by an excellent commercial awareness.

Hugh has over 15 years of experience in the real estate industry having worked across development, funds management and advisory. Before joining Newmark, Hugh was the Victorian state lead for KPMG’s real estate advisory team and prior to this he worked in property funds management at both Macquarie and Orchard.

Hugh is responsible for managing Newmark’s Unlisted Funds, with his primary focus being on maximising returns to investors, which he does via utilising his in-depth market knowledge, applying his highly developed analytical skills and a pragmatic approach.

Steven has extensive experience in commercial property and retail operations within large national and multinational organisations. He has an in-depth knowledge of the market coupled with strong analytical abilities that enable him to provide optimal outcomes ensuring investor returns are maximised.

Steven prides himself on building strong relationships with all stakeholders and provides a considered and pragmatic approach to key decision-making and negotiation. He has extensive and well-rounded experience in the key fundamentals of asset management and real estate including asset management, lease analysis and negotiation, property management, acquisition and divestment. Through research and a passion for the property industry, Steven stays across both new to market and changing market trends both in Australia and overseas. Prior to joining Newmark Capital, Steven worked for Pacific Group of Companies on a major redevelopment and subsequent stabilisation period of a large Regional Shopping Centre. Steven has a Bachelor of Business through Griffith University.

Chelsea’s role at Newmark is Executive Assistant to Managing Director, Chris Langford, and Co-founder Executive Director, Simon T. Morris. Prior to joining Newmark, Chelsea worked across a portfolio of brands in the industry, with the latest in Property Development at BPM Corp. Always organised, timely and reliable, Chelsea thrives in high-pressure environments. In her spare time, you’ll find Chelsea checking out Melbourne’s newest restaurants, or breaking a sweat in fitness classes and reformer Pilates.

Jason has over 15 years of Commercial Real Estate experience in Property Operations having worked with some of Australia’s largest REITs and agencies including CFSGAM, Vicinity and CBRE in senior operational roles.

Prior to this Jason worked in commercial construction for 10 years in operational and general management roles primarily focussed on retail property.

Jason understands lifecycle asset management intimately and with a strong attention to detail and an analytical mind will ensure the best solutions for the properties he oversees.

He has a strong focus on ESG and enjoys the success of seeing projects providing a strong return for investors.

Jordan is a Chartered Accountant with over a decade of experience in Australia and the UK, working across the property investment, professional services and retail industries. Jordan provides sound analytical insights and seeks to drive change to promote high performance.

Prior to Newmark, Jordan was the Financial Controller at Peer Group PLC in London for 4 years until he decided to make the move back to hometown Melbourne.

Jordan has also worked at Landsec, the UK’s largest landlord and development company, in the commercial finance team and began his career at EY Melbourne for 4 years in the audit division.

Lisa has over a decade of experience, identifying development opportunities and delivering leading retail developments across neighbourhood, sub regional and super regional centres. Prior to Newmark, Lisa held Development Manager roles at Coles Group Property Developments and Vicinity Centres. She has successfully delivered a range of greenfield retail projects, and led a number of complex redevelopments – revitalising retail centres by introducing new uses and repositioning retail offers to better meet community needs and expectations.

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from Monash University, a Graduate Diploma in Property from Deakin University and is also GreenStar Accredited Professional.

Mark has an extensive background in the IT industry, with over 25 years of experience. Throughout his career, he has worked across various levels of IT support and has also taken on roles in project management. His experience in project management includes overseeing the development, testing, implementation, and change management processes.

Before his current position at Newmark, Mark spent two decades at LaTrobe University, where he made significant progress in his career. He started as a Systems Administrator for the Genetics and Zoology departments and eventually rose to the position of Senior Functional Analyst. This career progression showcases his dedication and expertise in IT.

Mark’s diverse skill set and extensive experience make him a valuable asset in the IT industry, capable of contributing to various aspects of IT support and project management. His tenure at LaTrobe University and his current position at Newmark underscore his dedication to his career and his ability to take on challenging roles in the field.

Rachel is an experienced finance manager with multiple years of experience in audit and financial accounting roles. Before joining Newmark, Rachel has worked in larger firms such as KPMG as well as smaller financial advisory firms. She has worked across a range of clients from ASX listed to early stage venture capital investee companies.

Rachel holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Otago and is a Chartered Accountant as recognised by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.

Stephanie is a Chartered accountant with over 10 years’ experience working in public practice, property development, residential real estate and marketing, in Melbourne and London. Before working with Newmark, Stephanie was Financial Controller for Kay & Burton, Melbourne’s leading luxury real estate agency, leading a team of 5, managing all the agency’s financial requirements.

Stephanie is responsible for the broader finance team, with a focus on the managing the reporting for the Newmark Property Trusts.

Tahlia joined Newmark Capital in January 2022 and is currently working as a Development Manager on the Jam Factory redevelopment. Prior to Newmark, Tahlia worked as a Development and Project Manager at Armitage Jones from 2019 to 2022, successfully delivering a number of significant Commercial projects in the CBD, including Wesley Place (Charter Hall project), and Queen and Collins (GPT project). Prior to working at Armitage Jones and relocating to Melbourne, Tahlia was based in Brisbane and worked across a number of roles in the residential and aged care/retirement development sectors. Tahlia holds a Bachelor of Business, majoring in Real Estate and Property Development, obtained from Griffith University in 2015.

Before joining Newmark, Vickie was a property accountant at Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT and has over twelves years’ experience in the real estate industry. Vickie is a Certified Practicing Accountant with CPA Australia and has a Master of Finance from University of Melbourne.
